Climate Change

-An informative and interactive program-

Are we overreacting about climate change?

This program is meant to educate users about five different ecosystems (polar regions, ocean, freshwaters, grasslands, and forest) that are currently being threatened by the actions of humankind. It also inspires users to take action by promoting various solutions, thus outlining the juxtaposition through before and after images of each habitat.

Users will be able to interact through the length of all the images, the different texts, and call to action prompts.  The program is also designed to go back and forth to revisit any ecosystem and read carefully through the information presented.

Figure 1. Illustrates the rough brainstorming sketch of how the screens would look like and overall theme, composition and creative idea of the program.

The technical logistics of the code include using external data gathered from a scraped data source or repository. Data is pulled out from a .json file and displayed according to the ecosystem on screen. For instance, if the user is in the “Polar Regions” screen and selects ‘Species” the information is referenced from the external data file.

The images below represent examples of the astonishing before and after differences between ecosystems that are being neglected due to climate change. Users will be prompted to select an option through the interactive drop-down menu and learn about the overview of the ecosystem, species in danger and threats. When they change screens, a list of solutions would appear in resemblance to an eye-catching series of pixels randomly appearing on the screen. This creative pixel manipulation allows viewers to try and decipher what the image would look like, to their surprise is a beautiful image of the ecosystem which hints that if we apply some of the solutions prompted, we can all help combat climate change and bring these ecosystems to life again.
