Neil Redding founder and CEO of Redding Futures: A boutique consultancy that helps brands and businesses engage powerfully with the Near Future.
I was quite interested on Neil's presentation since I also have a background in Advertising. Having worked as a Project Manager in an ad agency, it made me aware of the importance of leveraging high quality digital ads for our clients. I was not able to work in a project involving AR/VR; however, I sure think the clients we worked with could have leverage this technology and increase consumers to purchase and interact with their product.
I thought it was interesting to understand how the corporate environment leverages projects that are both in physical and digital settings. I liked he began the presentation by explaining the psychology of human behavior by saying, "As humans, we have been building abstract communication at scale".
He also highlighted the importance of storytelling. Show and tell still rules, presenting the object and product. Now we shift to real time communication with social media platforms that allow various forms of expression and transaction, even with the popularized job of being an influencer.
I enjoyed seeing all the examples he presented were you don't need any physicality anymore.
Loreal - Virtual makeup line. Wearing makeup in a digital context.
Levis - Trying on jean jackets.
Ikea - Trying furniture in your own home.
Shopify.
Gucci - Would you spend $10,000 in a virtual dress?
I thought this was an interesting example, as we care more of our digital persona. I could totally see people buying a virtual dress to enhance their presence, even in a digital environment.
